President’s Message

Welcome back to all the returning skaters and Welcome to all the skaters entering STARSkate at the March Kanata Skating Club for the first time.

You will notice a little difference in the session levels from past years. There has been a High level added to the Junior and Intermediate groups. This division was required based on the expected numbers of skaters and their skill levels. Please be aware of the new criteria when registering for your sessions this year.

It is very important to be in touch with your coach throughout the summer. You and your coach need to be aware of which sessions you plan to attend to ensure you receive the coaching you require.

Due to changes in the amount of ice we received from the City of Ottawa this year you may find your sessions have occasionally been moved to another day and time. Please keep your schedule handy and refer to the bulletin boards in the arena.

The code for this year will be the three Cs. Co-operation, courtesy and consideration. If we all keep this Cs in mind, as March Kanata skaters, when we use the ice, the dressing rooms, cheer at competitions, and volunteer our time we will all enjoy our skating experience and therefore represent our club in the best possible way.

Please take note of the information regarding the new skating clothes that are available this year. We are going to be a great looking group.

The March Kanata Skating Club has been awarded the Special Olympics Competition on Sunday, January 13^th, 2008. Working at this event, when we last hosted it in 2004, has been the most fulfilling and heartwarming experience of my life. These skaters display the very best of skating by their individual efforts and strong support of each other. If you have any time to offer to volunteer for this event please contact Martha Johnstone, Special Olympics Competition Chair. Please come out and support these very special athletes.

The March Kanata Skating Club is run by the parents of the skaters, for the skaters. Please say “Yes” whenever you are asked to volunteer a little of your time. You will be setting a great example for your children. There are still openings on the Executive for a Fundraiser and a Hospitality Coordinator. If you could lend a hand please let me know.
